Where are you located?

While I am based in the NYC area, I work with clients virtually all over the United States using a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform.  Current licensing laws allow me to work with clients in most US states with some noted exceptions. If I am unable to legally work with you, I am happy to refer you to another trusted colleague.

Do you take insurance?

I currently do not accept insurance but I do accept payment from Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) or Health Savings Accounts (HSA) if your plan considers nutrition services as eligible expenses. I can also provide a Superbill for each session that can be submitted to your insurance for out-of-network reimbursement.

What is your approach to nutrition counseling?

I take a comprehensive approach to wellness that considers not only your diet but also your lifestyle, emotional well-being, and overall health. Unlike traditional nutrition counseling that may focus solely on food exchanges, calorie counting or specific diets, I tend to take a more personalized and holistic view. I assess your unique needs, taking into account your physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. I offer the option of performing functional medicine laboratory testing, such as gut microbiome analysis, DUTCH testing, genetic testing, food sensitivity testing, etc. to identify the underlying factors behind any symptoms. My goal is to create a nutrition plan that aligns with your individual goals and addresses the root causes of any health issues, providing a more balanced and sustainable path to wellness.

What is a Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS), and what is the difference between a CNS and a registered dietitian?

A Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) is a nutrition professional who has obtained a Master’s degree in Nutrition, passed a rigorous national board exam administered by the Board for Certification of Nutrition Specialists (BCNS), and completed 1000 hours of supervised practice experience working under a BCNS-approved supervisor. These qualifications are comparable to those required to become a Registered Dietitian (RD). The CNS credential is the most advanced certification for personalized nutrition practitioners. Certified Nutrition Specialists apply research-based personalized medical nutrition therapy recommendations to take a root-cause approach to wellness and practice preventative care. They lead the shift from disease management to genuine health care, focusing on wellness and longevity. Whereas most RDs work in a clinical setting, such as a hospital, nursing home or clinic, most CNSs work in private practice or alongside a functional or integrative medicine practitioner. Dietitians are trained to practice within the guidelines of the USDA and conventional medicine with guidelines developed for the population at large whereas CNSs are trained in functional medicine, which is personalized, looking to correct root imbalances in the individual’s body to restore health and vitality.

What makes you different from other dietitians or nutritionists?

I believe that just as no two people are exactly alike, no two care plans should be alike either, so your experience working with me will be personalized and individualized to meet your current needs using recommendations backed by scientific research. I will meet you where you are at, work with you to set realistic and achievable goals around diet and lifestyle modifications, perform appropriate functional medicine laboratory testing,  coordinate with your care team (if warranted) to provide seamless support, and provide you with the tools and strategies you need to succeed.

Will I have to follow a strict diet plan, and can I still enjoy the foods I love?

I believe in creating nutrition plans that are both effective and enjoyable. While I may recommend some adjustments to your current eating habits, my approach is not at all about strict diets or deprivation, since research clearly shows that these do not work long-term and even backfire. I work with you to incorporate nourishing, whole foods that you enjoy into your daily life. My focus is on making sustainable changes that fit your lifestyle, allowing you to savor the foods you love while promoting better health. Ultimately, my goal is to empower you to attune to and trust your body's innate wisdom in making food choices, enabling you to prioritize foods that are both satisfying and beneficial for your well-being.

How long will it take before I begin to see results?

The timeline for seeing results from our work together can vary depending on individual factors, including your specific health goals, commitment to the process, and the nature of your health concerns. Some clients experience positive changes within a few days or weeks, while others may take longer. My approach emphasizes long-term health and well-being, so I prioritize sustainable progress over quick fixes. I'll work closely with you to set realistic expectations and create a personalized plan that aims for gradual and lasting improvements in your health and vitality.
